Understanding the Differences Between Realistic Engine Sounds 2 Editions: Lite, Plus, and Pro

Realistic Engine Sounds 2 is designed to give developers high-quality, fully spatial vehicle audio for games and simulations. To make the asset accessible for different budgets and project scales, it is available in three editions: Lite, Plus, and Pro.

Although all editions share the same core engine sound controller and workflow, they differ in the amount of included audio content and the range of sound variations available.

This article explains these differences to help you choose the edition that best fits your project.

Shared Features Across All Editions

Before looking at the differences, it’s important to highlight what all three editions have in common:

  • Same engine sound controller and system
Every edition uses the identical controller logic, behaviour, and integration process.

  • Fully spatial audio
All sound clips included in every edition are configured for full 3D spatial playback.

  • Optimized for Unity
All editions include seamless looping RPM samples and are ready to use out of the box.

This means upgrading from LitePlusPro never requires reworking your code or vehicle setup. The only difference is the amount of audio content you get.

Curious about the detailed differences between the Lite, Plus, and Pro editions?

Below, you can find a comparison of the content included in all three editions.

Realistic Engine Sounds 2 – Lite Edition

The Lite Edition is the most affordable entry point.
It is designed for prototyping, indie projects, or teams that only need a minimal number of engine sounds.

Best for:

  • Prototyping and testing mechanics

  • Small indie games

  • Early-stage development

  • Developers who want to experiment before committing to the full library

What it includes:

  • RES2 engine sound controller
  • A reduced selection of looping engine RPM clips

  • A limited number of engine types

  • Fewer prefabs

  • Muffler Crackle and Gear Changing sound effects
  • The above mentioned sound effects comes with their own controller scripts – just drag and drop these prefabs into a RES2 engine sound prefab

In short: Lite Edition gives you the essentials, perfect for simple vehicles or testing gameplay features.

Realistic Engine Sounds 2 – Plus Edition

The Plus Edition expands significantly on the Lite version.
It provides more sound variations, smoother transitions, and a greater selection of vehicle types.

Best for:

  • Indie and mid-size games

  • Projects that need better audio variety

  • Realistic vehicles with more engine behaviour stages

What it provides:

  • RES2 engine sound controller
  • A broader set of looping RPM samples

  • More engine variations

  • More additional sound effects such as Turbo, Supercharger, Muffler Crackle, and Gear Changing SFX
  • The above mentioned sound effects comes with their own controller scripts – just drag and drop these prefabs into a RES2 engine sound prefab
  • Higher variety than Lite Edition

Plus Edition is the balanced middle option, giving much better variations without the full cost of the Pro edition.

Realistic Engine Sounds 2 – Pro Edition

The Pro Edition is the complete, fully featured version of the asset.
It includes everything available in the Realistic Engine Sounds 2 library.

Best for:

  • Commercial titles

  • High-budget or high-realism projects

  • Simulators and driving-focused games

  • Developers who want the maximum audio fidelity and choice

What it provides:

  • RES2 engine sound controller
  • Bigger library of RPM loops and variations

  • The largest number of engine types and subtypes

  • Maximum flexibility for designing unique vehicle sounds

  • More additional sound effects such as Straight Cut Gearbox, Turbo, Supercharger, Muffler Crackle, and Gear Changing SFX
  • The above mentioned sound effects comes with their own controller scripts – just drag and drop these prefabs into a RES2 engine sound prefab
  • Much higher variety than Lite and Plus Editions

  • Provides the best price to content ratio

If you want the highest realism and the widest range of audio options, Pro Edition is the clear choice.

All editions are upgrade-friendly, so you can start small and expand as your project grows.

Expanding Your Edition With Add-On Engine Sound Packs

One of the advantages of Realistic Engine Sounds 2 is its flexible upgrade system. No matter which edition you choose, you’re never locked into a fixed amount of content — you can expand your library over time.

Upgrade Path From Lite With Individual Engine Packs

If you purchase the Lite Edition, you can enhance it by buying individual engine sound packs separately.
These individual engine packs allow you to build your own custom collection of vehicle sounds.

The only exception is the engine types already included in the Lite edition — you don’t need to buy those again.

This approach is ideal if:

  • You want to start with a low-cost entry version

  • You only need specific engine types instead of the full library

  • You want to expand gradually based on project needs

Add-Ons Work With Every Edition

All editions – Lite, Plus, and Pro – support optional sound pack add-ons.

The add-on sound packs are not included in any editions, that’s why they are called as add-ons.

Whether you need new engine types, unique RPM profiles, or additional variations, these packs integrate seamlessly with the existing controller in every edition.

This ensures:

  • No code changes required

  • No re-setup of vehicles

  • Smooth compatibility across the entire Realistic Engine Sounds 2 ecosystem
